Season wrap up…….
The colors are still hanging on all around us on the farm. The leaves seem happy to see us through till the last harvest day, for which we are thankful. Just yesterday we finally finished getting our garlic in the ground. After missing our early October dry window I thought we might never be able to find a dry enough time to get it planted. We had to change the farm plan and relocate our garlic to a higher and drier spot to get it in on time. Abe and I both noticed that this was one of the few times we’d ever planted garlic that was fairly painless and pleasant; no wet, cold rain coming down, hands weren’t to frozen, and no hard clay to deal with. The glory after getting garlic planted is always fairly large as you look at the long beds now freshly covered with mulch hay and all ready for Winter.
Farm clean up is almost there, one more day or so and then it is just keeping up with the harvest. Our spinach in the greenhouses is looking good for the holiday season, and we are just trying to stretch our outdoor spinach until then. The Fall raspberries are still going and are a welcome treat in between the dreaded “weeding the strawberries” job and picking up mountains of remay in the field. Next week we will be putting endwalls up on our newest greenhouse for some peace of mind for me. Every windstorm gives me horrible nerves and that will not make for a fun Winter.
That is about all from here. Just enjoying the quiet and mellow pace of seasons end.
