OUR STORY

New Leaf Organics is a 1st generation woman-owned farm in Bristol, Vermont.

Led by Jill Kopel, we’ve been growing high quality, deliciously fresh organic produce and flowers since 2000.

We believe that kindness is a necessary nutrient, that beautiful places create a nourishing foundation for community connections, and that health and joy go hand in hand.

As a gathering place for people through musical events, biking, flowers and food, New Leaf is a lively and welcoming farm with a deep commitment to the local food system.  Everything we grow is sold in Vermont, most of it within 25 miles of the farm.

When you fill up your grocery basket at our farm stand, destress with a walk in the flower fields, or attend an event at the farm, you become not only a customer, but a member of the local Vermont agricultural community.

We’re so glad you’re here, and we hope to see you at the farm soon!

How It Started

Mid-July, in the year 2000: the flower gardens pulled me in.

I was visiting a college friend and exploring the Champlain Valley when I stumbled upon the farm that I’d turn into New Leaf Organics.  The flowers were gorgeous and the character of the house and setting called to me.

I didn’t know it was for sale, but that night I saw the same property listed on the Farm Link website, which connected aspiring farmers with retiring farmers.  It was serendipity.

The Howard family, who had operated a small dairy and cut flower business here for many years, had raised their kids and were ready to move off the farm.  They didn’t go too far, though — they moved just next door.  With the basic farming infrastructure in place and neighbors who knew the land close by, I hit the ground running.

Since then, with the support of a dedicated crew of farming “geeks”, we’ve planted every single flattish inch of the farm (5 acres) with vegetables, flowers, and berries.  My kids, Ruby and Ada, and husband Skimmer, make sure we don’t work the whole summer away.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  Supporting local farms like ours ensures that high quality agricultural soils will be kept in farming for generations to come, and proof that together we really can keep Vermont agriculture, and the communities we feed, alive and thriving!

With gratitude,

Jill
